I've been quite keen for a number of years for shooting wide format panoramas. Originally because I was only working with a point + shoot camera which didn't handle extra-wide very well to begin with and later to capture huge pictures for banner size printing. I've collected quite a few over the last few years and thought I'd share a few with the group and give everyone else a chance to do the same.

This first one is a 180 degree view from the balcony of our old apartment in Vancouver looking North to the mountains.

This is a 360 degree view of our lodge at Ndutu, Tanzania in January 2010. My wife fell in love with this place and the total lack of separation from the environment was incredible. The lodge itself had a very realistic approach to dealing with the local wildlife through acceptance and avoiding the larger animals when needbe. Our cabin was at the end of the lodge and apparently had been shuttered entirely (along with several others near it) earlier in the year when a pride of lions took to sleeping on the front step.

Rounding out the set with something totally different, here's a old 360 degree picture of the diversion dam in Pinawa, Manitoba.

I'm often quite tempted to get the 8mm fisheye for m4/3 to do some wide format stuff, but have managed pretty decent results just with overlapping pictures and some careful post processing. In years gone by it was quite laborious to get them stitched together and some of these show some uneveness in the sky, but the new photomerge in CS5 makes it practically a one button deal these days. The extra resolution is a real bonus too, we got a print of the Ndutu panorama which is 5 feet long and really brings a touch of Africa to the living room.

Very keen to see what everyone else has been shooting :)

River Tyne, from the north bank, between Newcastle City Centre and Elswick.

Four shots with the Panasonic 20mm, put together using hugin. Just a matter of throwing the images at it, telling it which projection I wanted, then cropping the result. Magic.

This a handheld four shot panorama from the Yading nature reserve in China. It could have turned out better if there was less harsh light and a few clouds.

Here are a variety of panoramas I've stitched together using PTGui Pro.

Had time to kill in Derby this weekend. After eating egg and chips, I stood up and shot off five portrait frames with the Panasonic 20mm to make up this picture of the Guildhall Indoor Market. As ever, click for the big'un.

Not a great photo to being with, but it's always fun to see the results after stitching everything together.

What a great collection of pans!! It appears that people are using a number of different programs to do the stitching. Was wondering what ones people really like? I would be interested in a stand alone program. Currently the ones I have done have been done by hand using Photoshop 7.
