Out for a ramble in the scrub, we found a dry swamp with remnants of a fence across it.

Interesting fence Melanie and nicely photographed.

I have an interest in old fences through my work. This intrigues me as at first I thought post and rail, but then mortice (hole) wasn't very big and oddly weathered.
I've seen old fence posts with holes for wire but never eroded or weathered to that size.
Any idea what it was?

Well observed, that's a very good question. I don't recall having seen such large holes for wire, either. There wasn't any old wire that I noticed. Possibly, going on the line of detritus, rough, light branches were used as railings.

Thanks. I did wonder that also.
Probably remain a mystery.
