Shot a Protest by students in Mumbai with the newly launched Olympus OMD-EM5 Mark 3 sent to me by Olympus India. Lenses used were 25mm f1.2 and 45mm f1.8. all images were shot as Jpegs in manual mode with the in camera JPEG mode with plus 1 for contrast.

Nice set of photos. A big advantage of the m43 format is that you can fly under the radar a bit with the smaller kit. That's a big reason I like them for travel. Nobody takes me seriously, so I'm left alone.

Thanks. Handling was superb. AF was also very good. Just the eye cap is like always wonky .... results for a m43 sensor are superb. Since I also use full frame time and again I find the high ISO not that great ....after 1600 a lot of noise creeps in for my liking. In my opinion high iso performance fujifim is better compared to any m43 sensor.

I took the opportunity of the protest to check the AF and the low light image quality performance of the camera. So it was a fun testing.

What was the noise reduction set to? It seemed a bit high, resulting in unnatural smoothness.

I don't turn up NR. But Overall to my liking I will just go upto 1600 iso max after that I don't like what I see.

Were these RAWs or JPEG? What was the noise filter set to (PP for RAW, or in-camera for JPEG)? I find that 0 noise filter in-camera (which is not off BTW) is usually too much for my liking, while the default of 0 in ACR is not enough for m4/3 sensors, even at base ISO.

I think you have so beautifully captured the essence of the protests - the messages for unity and and call to keep secular and multicultural fabric of the Indian democracy and ethos intact in opposition to increasingly intolerant and divisive forces and tactics . Who knows - may be you have documented another watershed event in the Indian history which is no less important than India's freedom struggle.

More than the technical nitty gritty , this seems to be most important thing to me. Kudos.

I like the images and quite frankly any critique of noise reduction or lack thereof seems to be secondary to the power of the images and the reason for the protests. Just my opinion but I sometimes worry that we overanalyze posts that are clearly labeled as a protest.

From the originating post for this thread, gear was part of the content and this is a photography forum dedicated to a particular type of equipment. So of course technical discussion of photos is expected. It doesn't matter if the title states that the photos are of a protest.

I don't come to mu-43.com to get my news about world affairs...there are other sites which are much better at that.

I would have liked to see some colour images in there as well. As it was a bit of a gear test/review, and most people generally shoot colour

superb set of images.. So far loving my Oly kit and expanding. 17 1.2 would be nice for you to test in such situation and also 45 1.2 considering you have dual body on hand .

If I may contribute, I attended a protest today.

The M.Zuiko 14-150 is convenient and lightweight, but a bit soft at longest focus, but I really liked the expressions on people's faces. I was travelling on public transport with 20 signs (the one on the right is one of mine), and so couldn't bring better lenses, like the Zuiko Digital 150/2.

Later, I switched to the OM-System Zuiko 180mm ƒ/2.8 on a Metabones Speedbooster Ultra, for an effective 127mm ƒ/2.0. Actual aperture was ƒ/8. (Ignore the EXIF data; I was in a hurry, and picked a lens that I had previously programmed that I thought would be close enough for IBIS's needs — although the ISO and shutter speed should be correct.)

The 180/2.8 pretty much stayed on the camera after that, doing a wonderful job of picking out interesting subjects.

The only other lens to get a work-out was the M.Zuiko 7-14mm ƒ/2.8, which was good for establishing context, crowd size, etc.

All of these were JPEGs right out of the camera, with no editing.
